Calgary Wranglers forward Clark Bishop is here to stay after first season performance

For the news week the Calgary Flames had, Clark Bishop’s contract extension was not necessarily the most talked about piece of business. However, looking back at his season, he was a good player to keep in the organization. Bishop regularly played alongside captain Brett Sutter and brought an edge to this team that included a Calder Cup victory on his hockey resume. Here’s what Bishop brought to the Calgary Wranglers in his first season with the team. 

By the numbers

Regular season

Bishop played in the majority of the games for Calgary this season skating in 64 match-ups. He gelled the best with Brett Sutter and Kevin Rooney for the majority of the year and they would often be apart of the starting lineup. They would’ve been considered mostly the third line for this team but would make their way to a second line position based on their playing time. He split his time at center and on the wing over the course of the year. 

The 27-year-old was considered one of the veterans this year with NHL experience with Ottawa and Carolina and the firsthand experience of being on a winning AHL team. Bishop wouldn’t always be the guy to put up a bunch of points in a stretch of games but he had ways of contributing that would help this team out.

In his first season in Calgary, Clark Bishop put up 11 goals and 12 assists for a total of 23 points. Four of his goals were game-winners and with his line typically the first out for the penalty kill, he earned two short-handed goals through the regular season. 

Post-season

Bishop played in all nine playoff games for the Wranglers, earning three points over the course of the two series. He scored two goals and assisted on Jakob Pelletier’s overtime winner in their first playoff game against Abbotsford. His goals came in the second game of the Canucks’ series and in the last game of the Firebirds series.
