Canucks place forwards Brock Boeser, Curtis Lazar on injured reserve

It keeps getting worse for the Vancouver Canucks.

The club has announced that forwards Brock Boeser and Curtis Lazar have been placed on injured reserve on Wednesday. The Canucks also called up Sheldon Dries and William Lockwood from Abbotsford.

Boeser missed Monday’s contest against Carolina, a 3-2 loss, and was originally listed as day-to-day with an undisclosed injury. Boeser has four assists in five games while failing to register a goal on nine shots. Boeser had 23 goals and 46 points last season and has totaled at least 45 points in all five of his full campaigns.

Boeser required surgery for a hand injury suffered during training camp but did return to play for the start of the regular season. He also missed time with an arm injury in April of 2022.

The Canucks have struggled to score this year, including Boeser, but he’s still one of the team’s most valuable forwards. He signed a three-year extension worth $6.65 million per season on July 1, 2022.

Lazar joined the Canucks over the off-season and scored a goal in a 6-4 loss to Washington on Oct. 17. A depth forward, Lazar had a career-high of 16 points in 70 games last year with the Bruins.

On Monday, the Canucks announced that both Quinn Hughes and Travis Dermott would be out week-to-week. So Boeser’s addition to the IR is just another blow for a team that’s still chasing its first win of the season.

Among others, defenseman Tucker Poolman is out for a few more weeks with an undisclosed injury and fellow blueliner Riley Stillman is day-to-day with his own undisclosed injury.

The Canucks are the lone team without a victory this season, giving up two-goal leads in the first four games of the season.
