Connor Brown’s tenure with the Edmonton Oilers has been a disaster
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Despite the massive upside to his game, and the potential he has shown over his career, Connor Brown has not had the greatest time with the Edmonton Oilers.

Brown burst onto the scene with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and was a part of a big class of rookies that included Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, William Nylander and current teammate Zach Hyman. After three solid seasons in Toronto, Brown signed with the Ottawa Senators, where he played in a bigger role, posting three consecutive 35-point seasons.

However, things turned gloomy for the Toronto native last season. A season-ending knee injury stopped his stint with the Washington Capitals after just four games.

However, after signing a one-year, $4 million AAV deal to come to Edmonton, joining former Erie Otter teammate Connor McDavid, it seemed as if Brown was going to find his game again. Only $775,000 is hitting the Oilers’ cap this season, with the possibility of Brown’s $3.225 million worth of signing bonuses effecting next year’s cap if he does not ramp up his game.

He has not. In 23 games, Brown has picked up just one assist, and has not scored a goal since March 24, 2022. According to DFO’s Frank Seravalli, Brown is expected to be a healthy scratch for the Oilers’ tilt against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday.

On Thursday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and Seravalli discussed why Brown has not worked out in Edmonton.

Frank Seravalli: I was at the Oilers’ practice yesterday…and he was not a happy camper coming off the ice, and you certainly cannot blame him. I thought that fit would be so much better. You have to go back to when Connor Brown was [an Ottawa Senator, the last time he scored], closing in on two full calendar years. That has definitely hurt the Oilers, eating up their cap space
