Coyotes Troll Maple Leafs With Empty-Net Goal Social Media Post to End 14-Game Losing Streak
Marc DesRosiers-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Coyotes' social admin is back at it again.

After Matias Maccelli put the puck into the empty net to put the Coyotes up 5-3 over the Ottawa Senators on Friday night, Arizona's social media admin posted to X (formerly Twitter), throwing a subtle jab at Toronto.

"Not only did the Arizona Coyotes win. But we also followed proper etiquette and put the puck into the empty net very, very gently," the Coyotes posted.

The post was related to when the Senators' Ridly Greig wound up and throttled the puck into the empty net against the Maple Leafs on Feb 10. Following the slapshot, Morgan Rielly cross-checked Greig in the face.

Rielly was handed a five-minute cross-checking penalty and a game misconduct, plus he was suspended five games by the NHL for his actions in the Maple Leafs' 5-3 loss to the Senators.

The NHLPA and Rielly appealed the suspension, which meant a meeting in New York was needed with NHL commissioner Gary Bettman. Joining the defenseman was his agent, J.P. Barry, NHLPA representatives, Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan and GM Brad Treliving.

Rielly's appeal was unsuccessful, meaning he remained out for the full five games, and forfeited $195,312.50 of his salary.
