Flames acquire Tyler Toffoli from Canadiens

The Calgary Flames acquired right winger Tyler Toffoli from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Tyler Pitlick, prospect Emil Heineman and draft picks.

Toffoli, in his second year with Montreal, has registered nine goals and 26 points in 37 games this season. He posted 14 points for the Habs last postseason as Montreal made it to its first Stanley Cup Final since the 1990s.

The potential trade occurs as the Canadiens continue a downtrodden season. Montreal has been marred in losing streaks all season and currently sits with the worst record in the league (8-33-7) and a -85 goal differential. The Habs fired general manager Marc Bergevin in November and relieved head coach Dominique Ducharme of his duties just last week.

The Flames, on the other hand, have found success in Darryl Sutter's first season as their head coach and are currently riding a six-game winning streak. Calgary sits in second place in the Pacific Division behind the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Flames host the Canadiens on March 3 for the final matchup of the season series. Montreal won the first game on Nov. 11, 4-2.
