Islanders captain Anders Lee: 'I stand for the justice of George Floyd'

Ahead of the weekend, personalities from around the sports world such as San Jose Sharks winger Evander Kane offered reactions to the killing of George Floyd, an African-American man who died while in Minneapolis police custody on May 25.

New York Islanders captain Anders Lee chimed in Monday afternoon.

"I will never fully understand because the color of my skin but I have an opportunity to make a difference. I stand for anti-racism. I stand for the rights of black people in America, so we can all be equal. I stand alongside the black community through this difficult time and in the future. I stand for the justice of George Floyd and the countless others who have been killed by racism.

"Black Lives Matter."

The Islanders released a club statement earlier in the day.

While speaking with ESPN's "First Take" on Friday, Kane called upon high-profile athletes such as Sidney Crosby to speak up on such matters.

"It's time for guys like Tom Brady and Sidney Crosby and those types of figures to speak up about what is right and, clearly in this case, what is unbelievably wrong. Because that's the only way we're going to actually create that unified anger to create that necessary change, especially when you talk about systematic racism."
