John Tavares and Mitch Marner Miss Maple Leafs Game Against Blues Due to Illness, Marlies Forward Alex Steeves Makes Season Debut

The Maple Leafs' depth will be tested on Tuesday night against the St. Louis Blues.

Before warmups, Toronto announced that they've called up Alex Steeves and Dennis Hildeby from the Marlies. The reason is that Mitch Marner and John Tavares are sick, and Martin Jones is injured.

Along with those moves, the Maple Leafs have loaned Max Lajoie to the Marlies. It appears Steeves will get into the lineup for the first time this season with Marner and Tavares out.

Steeves has had a tremendous year in the AHL thus far, scoring 18 goals and 20 assists for 38 points in 38 games. You could utter those exact words about Hildeby as well. Both represented the Marlies this year as AHL All-Stars.

Hildeby, who has played 24 games with the Marlies this season, has 12 wins and a .913 save percentage.

The Maple Leafs' depth will be tested a good amount throughout this next stretch of games. Toronto will be without Morgan Rielly for the next five games due to his cross-check to the face of Ridly Greig on Saturday night in Ottawa. They'll also be without Conor Timmins for the foreseeable future as he's out with Mononucleosis.
