Monday was a busy day for the NHL in terms of players being placed on waivers and some being claimed by NHL clubs. Among them, the Montreal Canadiens have claimed Adam Brooks off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The list of waiver claims has been reported by multiple outlets. Here is a rundown below:

  • The Canadiens claim Brooks from Toronto
  • Seattle claims Alex Barre-Boulet off waivers from Tampa Bay
  • Philadelphia claims Patrick Brown off waivers from Vegas
  • Washington reclaims Axel Jonsson-Fjallby off waivers from Buffalo

As for Brooks, there’s a sentiment that it’s a little surprising he fell all the way to the Canadiens. Brooks was not someone the Leafs were eager to lose and it was believed he was going to be a likely claim off the waiver wire. Multiple teams had a shot to select him earlier than Montreal.

It’s going to sting a little that the Maple Leafs lost Brooks to their Canadian rivals. The good news for Brooks is that because he’s staying in Canada, there will be no quarantine issues and he can join the team immediately as Montreal will travel to Toronto on Wednesday for their season opener.

Brooks played in just 18 regular-season games for the Maple Leafs over the course of two seasons. In 11 games this past season, he scored four goals and one assist.

The New York Islanders have also placed 2014 fifth-overall pick Michael Dal Colle on waivers.
