Ottawa Senators defenseman Jakob Chychrun walks down wrong tunnel, explains why
Marc DesRosiers-USA TODAY Sports

A rare, and certainly strange occurrence happened deep in the heart of Texas on Friday night.

Following a wild first period that saw the Ottawa Senators grab a 3-2 lead against the Dallas Stars, it was noticeable on the Bally Sports South broadcast feed that Sens’ defenseman Jakob Chychrun looked like he was lost heading into the intermission.

Chychrun was caught walking down the Stars’ tunnel toward their locker room at American Airlines Center.

That led to many on social media to joke about the 25-year-old heading the wrong way, claiming that Chychrun was already sick of Ottawa and wanted out of town.

However, that was not the case.

On Saturday, the blueliner revealed that he had to go that direction after taking getting cut beneath the right eye in the opening 20 minutes.

On his X/Twitter account, “For those wondering… I was told to meet the Stars team doc at their room for some repairs. Thanks for the laughs this morning.”

Chychrun ended up returning, and played 25:23. It was certainly an eventful first period for Chychrun and his team, as he assisted on Ottawa’s first three goals.

However, the Stars ended up getting the last laugh, rallying from a 4-2 deficit to snag a 5-4 win.

Chychrun is in the middle of his first full season with the Sens, after (finally) getting traded from the Arizona Coyotes last season. The Boca Raton, Florida native has 20 points in 25 games this season, and has amassed 25 points 37 games in Ottawa.

With losses in their last three games, the Senators (11-14-0) are still at the bottom of the Atlantic Division with 22 points, just three points ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks for the worst record in the NHL. They are 12 points back of the Carolina Hurricanes for the last Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
