The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed defenseman Philippe Myers to a one-year contract extension, the club announced Friday afternoon.

Myers, 25, has one year remaining on his existing contract, which carries a $2.55 million cap hit. His new deal is worth $1.4 million and will take effect with the 2023–24 season.

The Lightning acquired Myers and AHL forward Grant Mismash from the Nashville Predators earlier this summer in exchange for defenseman Ryan McDonagh.

The 2021–22 season was Myers’ lone campaign with the Predators. The 6-foot-5-inch, 210-pound left-handed defender appeared in just 27 games with the team, scoring one goal and four points while averaging 14:53.

Before joining the Predators, Myers spent the first three seasons of his NHL career with the Philadelphia Flyers. His best stretch in Philadelphia came during the 2019–20 season, when he scored four goals and 16 assists while averaging 17 minutes and six seconds in 50 games.

In 142 career NHL regular-season games with Philadelphia and Nashville, Myers has scored seven goals and 33 points. He also appeared in 16 games with the Flyers during the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring three goals and four points and averaging 20 minutes and two seconds on the ice.

Myers is one of six NHL defenders under contract with Tampa Bay through 2024, along with Victor Hedman, Mikhail Sergachev, Erik Cernak, Haydn Fleury and Zach Bogosian. Not included in that list: Cal Foote, who is slated to become a restricted free agent next summer.
