Teams Want Anton Forsberg, Senators Unsure They’ll Trade Him

A goaltender who can play and costs only $900K is a reasonable option for a number of teams who might need to solidify their goaltending for the postseason. With the Ottawa Senators not likely to take part in the playoffs, they’ll be sellers and Forsberg could be on the move since he’s an attractive addition for someone. As the deadline nears and teams find themselves out of the mix for certain players, an option like Forsberg becomes more and more attractive.

Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reports that there’s both talk in Ottawa about trading him or re-signing him. He writes:

“One we talked about previously this week in our Blue Paint segment and that would be Anton Forsberg. The Sens have been thrilled with what they’ve seen from Forsberg. His name has popped up in conversations among other teams that are looking for netminders. The Sens would consider re-signing him.

The Senators have a few good reasons to hang onto Forsberg, especially in light of the inconsistencies shown by Matt Murray. Unless a team comes to the Senators with a pretty good offer, GM Pierre Dorion might elect to hang onto the netminder and ensure the Senators aren’t without a viable backup. The Sens might get a good offer though, simply because the affordable goaltending market is slim.
