The New York Islanders need to make life easier for Ilya Sorokin
Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discussed how the New York Islanders need to make life easier for Ilya Sorokin on the latest episode of Daily Faceoff Live.

Tyler Yaremchuk: My resolution is going to the New York Islanders. And the fact that Ilya Sorokin’s numbers look a little towards average this year and it’s not his fault. He’s facing 35.2 shots per game, that number if you convert it to 5-on-5 shots against it’s the second-most in the NHL. My resolution for the Islanders is that they need to make life easier for Ilya Sorokin.

They’re average when it comes to goals against per 60 on 5-on-5 yet their expected goals against is fourth-worst in the entire NHL. That tells you how good Sorokin has been still, considering the circumstances where the Islanders are usually known for being good defensively, they need to make life easier on their goalie.

Frank Seravalli: Yeah, we just showed you how numbers are not always as they appear to be with Connor McDavid and I think the same thing goes for Ilya Sorokin. You look at his numbers and you think these are somewhat pedestrian for him and then you look at the job he’s done propping up this Islanders team, they’re not in the playoff race without him, it’s been a pretty special season for Sorokin.
