Top Flyers Forward Representing Team USA at IIHF Men’s World Championships
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Flyers forward Joel Farabee has been added to Team USA’s roster and will represent the United States at the upcoming IIHF Men’s World Championships, which takes place from May 10 to May 26 in Ostrava and Prague, Czechia.

Farabee, 24, is getting a ton of hockey in this season. The Flyers forward just played in all 82 regular season games for the second year in a row, and will now represent the U.S. at the Men’s World Championships in lieu of missing out on the Stanley Cup playoffs.

In his 82 games this season, Farabee recorded career-highs in goals (22), assists (28), and points (50), though a dreadful end to the season handicapped what was otherwise a fantastic season for him.

When he plays for Team USA, it will be Farabee’s first time doing so in five years. Farabee last represented the U.S. in 2018-19, playing seven games at the U-20 World Junior Championships for Team USA. The 24-year-old was teammates with current Flyers forwards Ryan Poehling and Noah Cates, as well as NHL stars like brothers Jack Hughes and Quinn Hughes, and Jason Robertson.

One year prior, Farabee played for Team USA’s U-18 squad at the U-18 World Junior Championships, where he was teammates with Montreal Canadiens sniper Cole Caufield. Caufield will be joining Farabee at the World Championships next month, so those two are reunited once again.

It’s currently unclear whether Farabee will be facing some of his Flyers teammates in Czechia next month; Travis Konecny reportedly received an invite from Team Canada but declined to participate.

Rookie goalie Sam Ersson said he “would like” to play for Sweden at the World Championships, but there were some conversations that needed to happen first.

Team USA boasts a stacked roster this spring, so it will be exciting to watch Farabee and Co. either way.
