Barcelona will deal in favours with agent Jorge Mendes with Ansu Fati future likely to be affected

Barcelona have a number of futures to be resolved this summer, and a percentage of them are clients of super-agent Jorge Mendes . The Portuguese is notoriously influential at Barcelona, and President Joan Laporta has expressed that they have close relations. Those are set to continue this summer.

Lamine Yamal, Ansu Fati, Alejandro Balde, Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix are all contracted to Mendes, while long-term transfer target at Manchester City Bernardo Silva is also part of Mendes’ network. Diario AS say that with Lamine Yamal’s contract to be improved and extended when he turns 18, Barcelona will seek to treat Mendes’ other clients favourably, or cede to his wishes, in order to appease the agent, in return for helping to keep Lamine Yamal.

Many teams are eyeing a loan deal for Vitor Roque, with interest from Spain and abroad. His agent, André Cury, has ties to Manchester United and other English clubs. One such case could Fati, who is returning from a poor season at Brighton and Hove Albion on loan, and might be treated less harshly than he might be otherwise. Similarly, Felix may return on loan as a favour to Mendes, with few other suitors, despite the doubts about in him in Can Barca. The Blaugrana may call in these favours if they can afford a pursuit for Silva.

To a degree, it’s a report that only puts words to a long-term suspicion of the hierarchy in Can Barca. On few occasions has it been as explicit as this, but certainly some of the moves Barcelona have made in recent years are hard to make sense of without taking into account their representatives. Neither are they the only club that operate in this fashion, but it doesn’t seem to be working for Barcelona in recent years.
