‘Been Scouting for a Long Time’: Man Utd Face Potential Tottenham Competition for ‘Frightening’ Bundesliga Ace

Manchester United just about managed to get into the 2023/24 FA Cup final after playing with just one natural centre-back (Harry Maguire) in the 3-3 (4-2) win over Coventry City in the semi-final. Amid their ongoing centre-back injury crisis, it seems that the Red Devils are looking at a possible future move for Bayer Leverkusen man Edmond Tapsoba.

Manchester United Continue Scouting Work On Edmond Tapsoba

Which Premier League Club Could Compete For Tapsoba Signing With United?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Red Devils are one of the major clubs who have looked into the possibility of signing the 25-year-old centre-back after witnessing his heroics in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga-title winning campaign. He adds that United are on the lookout to sign a new centre-back in the summer transfer window and have “been scouting Tapsoba for a long time” as well.

The journalist has also revealed that scouts from three top unnamed teams were in attendance to watch the Burkina Faso defender in action during Leverkusen’s 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund at the weekend.

Romano claims that the 25-year-old’s situation could be “one to watch” in the summer and has also noted that Tottenham Hotspur showcased an interest in signing him in the past and it remains to be seen if the Lilywhites enter the race to sign him again, with Bayer Leverkusen yet to decide a price-tag for their player.

Who Else Is On United’s Wishlist?

Romano has also named a few other centre-back targets that the Red Devils are monitoring ahead of their first summer transfer window since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became a co-owner and took over sporting control of the club.

He claims that United have a long list of names on their wishlist, which includes OGC Nice man Jean-Clair Todibo, Juventus centre-back Bremer, Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, and Benfica youngster Antonio Silva.

It has already been reported that Raphael Varane will likely leave Old Trafford after this season, which would automatically require the club to sign a replacement.

However, they can be smart in signing a combative defender like Tapsoba, who has been praised as a powerful, quick defender with “frightening heading abilities”. The 25-year-old has made 38 appearances in all competitions for Leverkusen this season, helping them keep 15 clean sheets and remain undefeated in a historic 2023/24 season for the German club.
