Kylian Mbappé will reportedly leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires in late June. Many expect the Frenchman to join Real Madrid as a free agent, but one expert believes this saga has become irrelevant.

While there are news and opinions as to when this announcement will come, Guillaume Hoarau believes that Mbappé will join Real Madrid, but more importantly, this news cycle is on the back page because of the Parisians’ UEFA Champions League run.

“Everyone got caught up in this story,” Hoarau noted in his column for L’Equipe (h/t Le10Sport). “With the Champions League journey, it took a backseat. All eyes are focused on the UCL.

“In a group, when the subject is constantly in the newspapers throughout the season, even if you’re friends with the player, it can be frustrating because it affects the collective peace of mind. Being original on the topic means not discussing it. Everyone knows he’s going to Real Madrid. The coach has said he doesn’t want to discuss it until the player officially announces his decision.”

PSG have gone through Real Sociedad and FC Barcelona with Borussia Dortmund, who they played in this season’s group stage, standing in the way of a Champions League final appearance at Wembley Stadium.

If the Ligue 1 side advances past Dortmund, there’s the possibility that they will face Real Madrid. A potential matchup with the Spanish side will create a media frenzy, with the majority focusing on Mbappé’s future as part of the main story.
