The future of Rudi Garcia and the up-and-down performances of the team aren’t the only concerns for the Napoli hierarchy, which has started to devise plans for the January window. They’ll have to cope with the absences of Frank Anguissa and Victor Osimhen for a while due to AFCON.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the second half of the Milan clash offers them the blueprint for how to deal with the situation. While they were unconvincing with their standard scheme, they revved up after switching to a 4-2-3-1 with Giacomo Raspadori and Giovanni Simeone together.

That might be the best solution to have enough firepower without Osimhen, even though they’ll need to make adjustments in the midfield sans Anguissa, who’d be perfect for the position. Piotr Zielinski and Elmas are better suited for more dynamic roles. They’d play more in supporting roles if they used the scheme for a few games in a row. Jens-Lys Cajuste would be the only decent fit next to Stanislav Lobotka.

The Partenopei will likely bid farewell to Diego Demme. They are on the lookout for defensive-minded midfielders.

Our Take on Napoli, Osimhen, and Anguissa

Aurelio De Laurentiis won’t miss out on the opportunity to make his feelings heard about AFCON taking place in the middle of the season. Deploying 4-2-3-1 regularly wouldn’t be a bad idea and would catch two birds with one stone. Rather than making an addition, they could try to resuscitate Demme first, as he has the right skill set.
