How can you improve one of your marquee PPVs by having it in one of the world’s biggest and most incredible cities? According to Andrew Zarian of Wrestling Observer’s The Mat Men Podcast, AEW is bringing their Forbidden Door PPV to Arthur Ashe Stadium in June.

Earlier in the day, PWInsider reported that AEW would return to the famed tennis venue. They did not necessarily say it was for the September Grand Editions of Dynamite and Rampage. However, a PPV was being considered instead.

AEW has yet to confirm the location of Forbidden Door 3. They will most likely do so during next week’s media call for AEW Revolution. Once confirmed, Forbidden Door 3 will be in its third different city in three years.

This will be the first AEW PPV in New York since World’s End in December of 2023. That event was held on Long Island. This will be the first major PPV in WWE country since AEW first opened its doors. All Elite Wrestling has always done a show at Arthur Ashe Stadium. It was called AEW Dynamite Grand Slam.

The four-hour event saw Dynamite and Rampage filled on the same night. It was a big deal. The inaugural one drew enormous numbers for the company. The last two Grand Slam events have been good, but the first one was special.

The first Grand Slam saw Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega wrestle to a draw in their first-ever meeting. That was in September 2021, when the company was rolling. They had just brought in CM Punk, Danielson, Adam Cole, and a boatload of other top talent, not to mention that it was the second AEW event coming out of the pandemic.

The company is returning to Arthur Ashe Stadium for a PPV. That is how you top the first Grand Slam event. You bring Forbidden Door to New York City. The first two editions of the event were successful for the company—especially Forbidden Door 2, which was held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Recall that New Japan Pro Wrestling and ROH held an event at Madison Square Garden back when Wrestlemania 35 was at MetLife Stadium. That event drew well for both companies. Having Arthur Ashe Stadium will allow AEW to showcase some of the best wrestlers in their company, along with CMLL, NJPW, ROH, and others.

Attendance has decreased for the Grand Slam Shows over the past few years. In addition, Zarian has reported that AEW is looking to do another stadium show in the future to go along with Forbidden Door and AEW All-In.
