Conrad Thompson Says Ric Flair Pitched Turning On Sting At AEW Revolution
Sipa USA

Sting’s last match could have played out much differently. According to Conrad Thompson, Ric Flair wanted to be more involved.

Sting scored the win in his last match at AEW Revolution. He and Darby Allin defeated the Young Bucks to retain the AEW World Tag Team Championship at AEW Revolution. Ric Flair got involved in the match and took a double superkick from the Bucks.

Speaking on What Happened When, Conrad Thompson, Ric Flair’s son-in-law, stated that Flair wanted to turn on Sting at the pay-per-view. (H/t Sam Palmer of Wrestling Inc. for the transcription)

“He desperately wanted to turn on Sting,” Thompson said. “‘Conrad will you go talk to Tony? You’re friends with him, just go talk to him’ and I’m like ‘what are you talking about? ‘Just go and talk to him, try to convince him, me turning on Sting is best for business.’ I go ‘Ric you work here, you’re in the storyline, I think maybe you should tell him.'”

It was noted that Flair talked to Tony Khan about the idea, but he thought Thompson should tell him about it. Per Thompson, Flair told him to tell Khan “it’s only worked 10 other times,” referring to his past turns on Sting.

AEW briefly teased a turn by Flair. He met with the Young Bucks on the road to their match against Sting and Allin. In the end, Flair remained loyal to his former rival.
