The Pittsburgh Steelers now have a roster without a true fullback after undrafted rookie Monte Pottebaum decided to retire on Sunday.
Monte Pottebaum‘s time with the Pittsburgh Steelers was short-lived. On Sunday, the organization announced it moved the rookie fullback to their retired/reserved list.
The Pittsburgh Steelers received somewhat shocking news early on in training camp, as one of their rookies has officially called it quits very soon. Monte Pottebaum, the rookie fullback from the Iowa Hawkeyes, has officially retired, according to the Steelers' TwitterX account.
Some people just aren’t hard to picture in a Pittsburgh uniform, and maybe it’s the black and gold Iowa uniforms, or the neck roll hidden by a blonde mullet, but Hawkeyes fullback Monte Pottebaum just looks like a Steelers player.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will most likely have a new fullback in 2023 as the team has reportedly shown very little interest in bringing back Derek Watt.
Pottebaum already has some Steelers’ fans pulling for “The Mullett” After the Pittsburgh Steelers selected seven players in the 2023 NFL draft, they continued adding to the roster by coming to terms with seven undrafted free agents.
With Monte Pottebaum off to the NFL and a wealth of tight end talent, Iowa may benefit from running less 21 personnel and more two tight-end sets in 2023.
